Oregano
Oregano (Origanum vulgate hirtum) is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean and Mexico. It grows up to 2 feet tall and 18 inches wide and is a great ground cover. Oregano can be planted in containers or the ground, indoors or outdoors. It is easy to grow and very low maintenance.
Light: medium to full direct; direct sunlight creates a stronger flavor
Water: water when the top to 1 inch of soil is dry to the touch; ensure there is proper drainage to avoid root rot. Water thoroughly and less frequently.
Potting Mix: well draining
Toxicity: toxic to cats and dogs; edible for humans
Fertilizer: very little is needed and only in the spring
Additional Care: plant outdoors when the soil temperature is 70 degrees F. Harvest when the stems are at least 4 inches tall. Prune them back to encourage growth and maintain shape. The leaves are the most flavorful right before the plant flowers.
