Pothos
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum) is one of the most common and easily recognized houseplants. It’s native to French Polynesia but has naturalized throughout the world. It is a vining plant and can grow upwards of 40-60 feet tall in it’s natural habitat; 6-10 feet indoors with the right care. The pothos’ leaves are heart shaped, waxy and come in a variety of colors including bright green, dark green and variegated white, yellow or pale green. The pothos plant is one of the top air purifying plants as well as one of the easiest to care for. It thrives in just about any indoor environment which makes it perfect for new plant parents.
AKA: Devil’s Ivy, Devil’s Vine, Golden Pothos
Light: Low light tolerant but prefers medium light. It’s also tolerant to fluorescent lighting which makes it perfect for offices. Avoid direct sunlight as it can burn the leaves. If your variegated pathos is loosing its variegation, move it to a brighter area.
Watering: Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water slowly and evenly; drain excess.
Humidity: Does well in high and low humidity.
Toxicity: Toxic to cats and dogs. Mildly toxic to humans.
Potting Mix: Regular and well draining.
Additional Care: Trim the vines if they get too long or leggy. This will also encourage bushier growth. This is perfect as a hanging plant or on a shelf where the vines can trail. You can also train it to climb a support.
