Succulents
Succulents are a group of plants with similar characteristics. They have modified leaves, stems or roots that are thicker and hold moisture making them drought tolerant. They come in many shapes and colors and require minimal care. There are many different varieties of succulents that have slightly different needs so these care guidelines are for general succulent care.
AKA: Succulent Plant
Light: Bright indirect and direct light such as an East, West or South window. Succulents like light and warmth.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry completely before watering. Water slowly and evenly; drain excess to avoid root rot. Less is more with succulents.
Humidity: Average home humidity to dry air.
Toxicity: Generally non-toxic but some varieties are toxic so look up your specific plant if you are concerned. Echeveria and Hens&Chicks are some of the most common and both are non-toxic to cats, dogs and humans.
Potting Mix: Porous, sandy and loose. It also should be fast draining and fast drying.
Additional Care: Only use fast draining soil and rotate them regularly for even growth. Like many plants the lowest leaves may shrivel and drop. This is normal. If the top leaves do this, it’s an indication of overwatering or other issues.
